Ecce Homo #4

Anonymous 15th century
Óleo sobre tabla

In this oil painting on panel, we find the head of Christ, crowned with thorns, in front of a niche that is observed in the upper corners that would serve as an architectural context. The golden nimbus has dotted incised decoration, making the rays, and letters (IHS). It is a work without a clear attribution, which has been considered to be part of Berruguete’s circle. Mª Elena Gómez-Moreno has noted the possibility that it is a work from the first period of Bartolomé Bermejo. / Extracted from: A.A.V.V.: Instituto Gómez-Moreno (catalog). Granada, 1992, p. 116.

Chronology: XV Century
